FAQs
1. Which EVU PRIMO model should I choose?
Choose EVU7 PRIMO (up to 7.4 kW) for a suitable single-phase supply. Choose EVU11 PRIMO (up to 11 kW) or EVU22 PRIMO (up to 22 kW) where a compatible three-phase supply is available. Your vehicle’s onboard AC charger and the site’s available electrical capacity determine the charging rate you can use. A qualified installer should confirm the right model for your property.
2. Is EVU PRIMO compatible with my vehicle?
EVU PRIMO supports Type 2 AC charging when used with a suitable cable and a compatible EV or plug-in hybrid. Check your vehicle’s charging inlet and onboard AC charging limit before purchase. A higher-rated charger will not make a vehicle charge above its supported AC rate.
3. How quickly will each model charge?
Charging time depends on the energy needed, the vehicle’s onboard AC charging limit and the available charging power. As a calculation example only, adding 60 kWh at a constant 7.4 kW, 11 kW or 22 kW would take about 8.1, 5.5 or 2.7 hours respectively, before charging losses. These are theoretical illustrations, not guaranteed charging times. Actual sessions can take longer because of charging losses, temperature, vehicle behaviour and changes in available power. EVU7 PRIMO uses a single-phase supply; EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO require a suitable three-phase supply to deliver their full rated output.
4. Is EVU PRIMO tethered or untethered, what cable do I need and what is in the box?
This FAQ covers the untethered EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO range. Each model uses a Type 2 socket and does not include a charging cable. Use your own compatible Type 2 cable with a suitable current, phase rating and length. Each box contains one EVU PRIMO charger with Type 2 socket, one installation plate with screws, two RFID cards, two key fobs, one instruction manual and one tools/accessories box. The tethered PRIMO range is a separate product configuration.
5. What is the difference between EVU PRIMO and a tethered charger?
EVU PRIMO has a Type 2 socket and uses a separate compatible charging cable. A tethered charger has a cable permanently attached to the unit. With EVU PRIMO, you can choose a suitable cable length for your parking position.
6. Is installation included, and what should my installer check?
Installation is not included unless sold as part of a separate installer package. A qualified installer should assess the electrical supply, available capacity, protection, cable route, mounting location and commissioning requirements. EVU7 PRIMO requires a suitable single-phase supply; EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO require a suitable three-phase supply for full rated output. Ask your installer to confirm the complete installation cost and whether the proposed installation meets the applicable regulations and OZEV scheme requirements.
7. How do the app and RFID functions work?
RFID access allows authorised users to start charging with compatible RFID cards or key fobs. Each EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO includes two RFID cards and two key fobs. The techtron® Smart App supports charging control, scheduling and charging-status visibility, subject to the supported connectivity, app and firmware configuration. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are supported; exact versions or bands are not stated in this FAQ.
8. Does the techtron® Smart App require a subscription?
No. The techtron® Smart App is free to download and use with a compatible EVU PRIMO charger. Download the current app from the techtron® Smart Apps page or the relevant app store and follow the model instructions for account setup and pairing.
9. What safety protections does EVU PRIMO include?
EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO include integrated Type A residual-current protection, 6 mA DC leakage detection and PEN-fault protection. The controlled product specification also confirms over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, surge, overheat, grounding and leakage-current protection. The enclosure is IP65 and IK08 rated. A qualified installer must still provide and verify all installation-level protective measures required by the applicable wiring regulations and the installation manual.
10. Can EVU PRIMO be installed outdoors?
EVU PRIMO has an IP65 enclosure rating and IK08 impact protection. Outdoor installation must follow the model’s installation manual, with a qualified installer confirming the location, mounting and electrical protection requirements.
11. Does EVU PRIMO support solar charging?
EVU PRIMO supports solar integration through a compatible external energy management system (EMS) or hybrid inverter. Surplus-only charging requires compatible external control. The charger does not monitor solar generation, include an internal CT clamp input, provide built-in export limiting or offer dedicated solar/eco charging modes. 12. Does EVU PRIMO include dynamic load balancing or multi-charger load sharing?
No. EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO do not include built-in dynamic load balancing, a CT-clamp input, an internal load-management algorithm or multi-charger load sharing. Charging current can be adjusted manually through installer settings, but manual adjustment is not automatic dynamic load balancing. A qualified installer should confirm the site capacity before installation.
13. Are EVU PRIMO chargers OZEV eligible?
Yes. techtron® has confirmed product eligibility for the applicable EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO models. Customer grant eligibility is separate and depends on the applicable OZEV scheme, the applicant, property or site, installation and authorised-installer requirements. Before purchase or installation, confirm the exact model and current scheme conditions with techtron®, your authorised installer and the official GOV.UK guidance.
14. What’s the difference between EVU PRIMO and EVU NEO?
EVU PRIMO uses an LED charging-status interface and has no HMI display or touchscreen. EVU NEO uses an integrated LCD for charging information. Both are untethered Type 2 ranges. Compare the locked specification for the exact PRIMO and NEO models, including output, supply requirements and interface, before choosing.
15. Can EVU PRIMO be used commercially?
EVU11 PRIMO (up to 11 kW) and EVU22 PRIMO (up to 22 kW) may suit workplace or light commercial installations with a suitable three-phase supply. A qualified installer should assess capacity, access requirements and each vehicle’s AC charging limit. The range does not support dynamic load balancing or multi-charger load sharing, so these functions must not be assumed when planning a multi-charger installation.
16. What makes EVU PRIMO different?
EVU PRIMO is available as EVU7 PRIMO (up to 7.4 kW), EVU11 PRIMO (up to 11 kW) and EVU22 PRIMO (up to 22 kW). The range combines an untethered Type 2 socket, LithoGeniX® styling, an LED charging-status indicator, RFID access and techtron® Smart App functionality, subject to the supported connectivity, app and firmware configuration.

EVU PRIMO combines an untethered Type 2 socket, techtron® Smart App functionality and RFID access. When comparing chargers, consider the exact model specification, installation requirements, warranty terms, current OZEV scheme requirements and available support alongside the purchase price.
18. What does delivery cost and how long does it take?
Delivery is currently free within the UK and EU. Delivery to most UK locations is stated as 1–2 business days. Timing can vary by destination, order time, public holidays and courier conditions. Confirm the current delivery charge and estimate shown at checkout, especially for destinations outside the UK and EU.
19. Can I return my EVU PRIMO charger?
For a change of mind on an order placed through techtron.co, you may request a return within 30 days of receipt. The charger must be unused, undamaged and in resalable condition, and you are responsible for return shipping. Installed, used, incomplete or damaged products may be subject to deductions or may not qualify unless faulty. For damage or faults, contact customerservices@techtron.co with your order number, photos and issue details. Purchases from another retailer must follow that seller’s return process, subject to your statutory rights.
20. What warranty is included?
EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO and EVU22 PRIMO have up to three years’ warranty cover for the main unit and the supplied RFID cards and key fobs. Applicable sockets, plugs, charging cables, covered accessories and optional add-ons have 12 months’ cover. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship subject to its conditions, correct installation and commissioning. Normal wear and tear, misuse, accidental damage, third-party accessories and excluded consumables are not covered. Contact techtron® separately to confirm whether spare RFID cards or key fobs are available to purchase.
21. Where can I download EVU PRIMO manuals and conformity documents?
Use the techtron® User Manuals or Downloads page for the latest published documents. If the exact EVU7 PRIMO, EVU11 PRIMO or EVU22 PRIMO manual or conformity document is not listed, request the current model-specific file from customerservices@techtron.co before installation.
