Use this quick checklist to find out if you qualify for the OZEV EV Charger Grant in 2026. Most eligible customers can confirm in under two minutes.
Five-Question Eligibility Checker
Question 1: What type of property do you live in?
You qualify if you live in:
- A flat or leasehold apartment (owner or renter)
- Any rented residential property (house, bungalow, terraced, semi-detached, detached)
- A property without off-street parking — see Question 2a below
You do NOT qualify if you own your house outright with a private driveway — ineligible since 1 April 2022.
Question 2: Do you have private off-street parking?
You need a designated, private parking space that is accessible at all times. Allocated bays in communal car parks may qualify if the space is solely assigned to your property. Your installer will assess whether your space allows safe EV charging.
Question 2a: No off-street parking at all?
You may still qualify under the On-Street Parking Grant (£500). This requires installing an approved cross-pavement gully solution. Available until 31 March 2027. Ask your techtron® installer for an on-street assessment.
Question 3: Do you own or lease an eligible EV?
Your vehicle must be on the OZEV-approved electric vehicles list. This includes virtually all modern battery-electric cars from Tesla, Kia, Hyundai, VW, BMW, Audi, Nissan, Polestar, Jaguar, Volvo, Renault, Mercedes-Benz, and others. Most PHEVs (plug-in hybrids) also qualify. Check the OZEV list at gov.uk/electric-vehicle-chargepoint-grants.
Question 4: Have you previously claimed the EVHS or this grant?
If you claimed the old Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) before April 2022, or have already received this grant at the same property, you cannot claim again at that address. You may qualify at a different address.
Question 5: Can you get written landlord/freeholder permission?
Renters and flat owners need written permission from their landlord or freeholder before applying. Most grant this readily — EV chargers increase rental desirability and property value. Our flat owner guide sets out exactly what the permission letter must contain.
