What Is the OZEV Grant?

The OZEV grant — administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles — provides direct government funding to help UK households and businesses reduce the cost of installing a home or workplace EV charger. As of April 2026, the maximum grant has increased to £500 per socket, and the scheme runs until 31 March 2027.

Whether you rent, own a flat, or are a landlord, this guide explains exactly what the OZEV grant covers, who can apply, and how techtron® OZEV-approved chargers qualify.

The Five Active OZEV Grant Schemes (2026–27)

From 1 April 2026, five grant schemes remain active. Three schemes closed to new applications in March 2026.

What Does the Grant Cover?

The OZEV grant contributes toward:

  • The EV chargepoint unit itself
  • Installation labour and cabling
  • Necessary electrical upgrades
  • Safety checks and certification

The grant does NOT cover: the electric vehicle itself, groundwork, or any work on public land.

How the Grant Is Applied

You do not receive cash from the government. The discount is applied directly to your installer invoice. Your OZEV-authorised installer deducts the grant amount upfront and claims reimbursement from OZEV on your behalf. Our step-by-step application guide walks through the full 2026 process.

  1. You confirm your eligibility on the gov.uk Find a Grant portal
  2. Contact an OZEV-authorised installer for a quote
  3. Apply via the Find a Grant platform — OZEV notifies you and your installer
  4. Installation takes place after OZEV approval — do NOT install before this step
  5. Installer claims the grant; you pay the reduced invoice

How Long Does It Take to Get the Grant?

OZEV typically processes straightforward applications within 5–10 working days. Applications selected for audit may take longer. Apply before your EV arrives — do not wait. The grant ends 31 March 2027 and the government can close schemes with four weeks' notice. Use our two-minute eligibility checker to confirm you qualify before you contact an installer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the OZEV grant still available in 2026?

Yes. Five schemes are active until 31 March 2027. Owner-occupiers with a private driveway are no longer eligible (removed in 2022), but renters, flat owners, landlords, and businesses can still apply.

Do I apply myself?

Since 1 April 2026, customers apply directly via the Find a Grant platform at find-government-grants.service.gov.uk. Your installer then claims the grant on your behalf once installation is complete.

Which chargers qualify?

Only chargers on the OZEV-approved product list qualify. All techtron® EV chargers — EV7 EVO, EV7 VOX, EVU7 NEO, EVU7 PRIMO, EV11 EVO, EV22 EVO — meet this requirement.

How much can I save with the OZEV grant?

Eligible customers save £500 off their total installation invoice. A typical techtron® EV7 EVO home installation costs £700–£1,000 before grant; after grant the net cost is typically £400–£700 — a saving of up to 42%. See our full installation cost breakdown.
