The OZEV application process was overhauled on 1 April 2026. The previous installer-led portal has been replaced by a customer-led model using the gov.uk Find a Grant platform. Here is the complete 2026 process.
New for 2026: Customer-Led Applications
- You control your own application and timeline
- No need for an installer to initiate the process
- Your installer receives a notification to proceed once you are approved
- Installer still submits the final photographic evidence claim after installation
Step 1 — Check Your Eligibility
Use the techtron® OZEV eligibility checker or the gov.uk Find a Grant tool to confirm you qualify. Key checks: property type, parking type, vehicle eligibility, and previous grant history at this address.
Step 2 — Get an Installer Quote
Contact an OZEV-authorised installer for a site survey and quote before applying. techtron® can connect you with approved installers in your area. The quote must specify an OZEV-approved chargepoint model.
Step 3 — Register on Find a Grant
Visit find-government-grants.service.gov.uk and search for your specific scheme (Renters & Flat Owners, Residential Landlord, or Workplace Charging Scheme). Create a free account. This is the new 2026 platform — the old installer portal closed on 31 March 2026.
Step 4 — Submit Your Application
- Utility bill (under 3 months old) — your name and installation address
- Proof of vehicle ownership or lease (V5C, lease agreement, or company car letter)
- Written landlord/freeholder permission (renters and flat owners only)
- Installer quote on company letterhead specifying the OZEV-approved chargepoint model
Step 5 — Await OZEV Approval
CRITICAL: Do not begin installation before receiving OZEV approval. OZEV will email you and your installer when approved. Typical processing time is 5–10 working days. Applications selected for audit may take 2–4 weeks.
Steps 6, 7, 8 — Installation and Claim
Your installer completes installation within 90 days of approval, photographs the chargepoint, parking space, serial number, and building (four photos required by OZEV), and submits the digital claim. OZEV pays the installer; your invoice reflects the deducted grant amount. Our installation guide explains what happens on the day.

OZEV Application Audits — What to Know
OZEV selects a percentage of applications for audit — before and after installation. If selected for audit, you will be asked to provide additional evidence. Non-compliance with audit requests may result in grant cancellation. Keep all original documents, installer invoices, and vehicle ownership records for at least 12 months post-installation.
What If My Application Is Rejected?
OZEV notifies you by email with the specific rejection reason. You can address the issue and reapply. You are not permanently barred from applying again. Common causes of rejection — and their fixes — are covered in our OZEV FAQ.
